Born in 1923, Chochola abandoned school to attend photography classes and apprenticeships in Prague. He opened his first studio in 1943 and was loosely inspired by Group 42, capturing the social conditions of the city in post-war climate and Prague Spring. He became member of the Association of Czechoslovakian Graphic and Visual Artists, together with Sudek, Brok, Ehm and others. During the 60s and 70s he continued to take photographs and portraits of national and international figures and worked with his daughter on his autobiography.
