Thilo Maatsch
Germany
(1900—1983)
Born at the start of the century, Maatsch studied art and founded the Gesellschaft der Freunde junger Kunst, together with Molzahn and Jahns, and welcoming Lyonel Feininger and Paul Klee. Although he never studied at the Bauhaus, Moholy-Nagy, Kandinsky and Klee allowed him to access their studios for free. In 1925 he joined the November group and two years later he had his first solo exhibition at the Der Sturm gallery. The rise of the Nazis put a sudden stop to his career.
