Óscar Domínguez
Spain (1906—1957)Originally from Tenerife, Domínguez moved to Paris in 1927 to look after his father’s banana-export business. There he came into contact with Yves Tanguy and Pablo Picasso and joined the Surrealist movement. From 1934 he developed the decalcomania technique, exploiting the accidental effects produced by the process to create suggestive forms and images on different surfaces. In 1957 he committed suicide, three days before his 52nd birthday, in a manner foreshadowed 26 years earlier in his self-portrait.
