Maurice Tabard
France (1897—1984)Born in France and later emigrating to the United States with his father, Tabard studied at the New York Institute of Photography before opening his own portrait studio. After a few years he returned to Paris, where he specialised in fashion photography and entered a lively artistic milieu, meeting figures such as Philippe Soupault, Man Ray, Kertész and Magritte. These encounters shaped the direction of his work, which increasingly absorbed Surrealist aesthetics and a taste for visual experimentation.
