Georges Vantongerloo

Belgium (1886—1965)
Vantongerloo started his career in Antwerp. He moved to The Netherlands in 1914 and met Mondrian, van der Leck and van Doesburg: he founded with them the De Stijl movement and its Journal. He moved back to Brussels and later to Menton, where he worked with Max Bill on architectural projects. He settled in Paris, where he founded the Abstraction-Création group, and remained its vice-president until 1937. He continued to participate to international exhibitions until his death.
