Auguste Herbin

France (1882—1960)
After studying at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lille, Herbin set up his studio next to Picasso and Braque, who influenced his initial experimentation with Cubism. Herbin moved to a more abstract art and founded the group Abstraction-Création with Vantongerloo and Hélion. He was also editor of Almanach, the official movement’s review. Following a paralysis to his right hand side, he learnt how to paint with his left hand and continued to work until his death in 1960 leaving only one piece incomplete, named Fin.
